Today is Rose or Gaudete Sunday; “Gaudete” from the the Introit sung at mass: “Gaudete in Domino, semper gaudete” – “Rejoice in The Lord always, again I say, rejoice.” Everything in the liturgy today speaks of JOY.
In honor of this day of rejoicing, some verses from the Bible on joy, as food for meditation:
“Do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” – Neh 8:10
“In thy presence there is fullness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.” – Ps 16:11
“Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.” – Ps 30:5
“Thy words were found, and I ate them, and thy words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart; for I am called by thy name, O LORD, God of hosts.” – Jer 15:16
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” – Jn 15:8-11
“You have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.” – Jn 16:22
And finally –
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope”! (Rom 15:13)
